The Canvas Community
Hello, I’m Heather, an artist and the person behind The Canvas Community.
I created The Canvas Community to offer relaxed, welcoming spaces where people can explore creativity, connect with others and enjoy the process of making, without pressure or expectation.
With a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and a background in care, I’ve seen how powerful art can be - not just as a creative outlet, but as a way to bring people together, build confidence and create moments of calm and joy. That experience naturally shaped what The Canvas Community is today.
During the pandemic, I co-created a project called #MCRFOUNDIT, hiding small pieces of artwork around Manchester for people to discover. What began as a simple idea grew into a wider movement, spreading to cities across the UK and connecting people through shared moments of creativity and curiosity. It later became City Found It, an exhibition celebrating the artworks, stories and connections that came from the project.
That experience reinforced something I truly believe, art has a unique way of connecting people.
Through The Canvas Community, I now run workshops and 1–1 sessions designed to feel relaxed, inclusive and creatively freeing - whether you’re a complete beginner or have years of experience.
Looking ahead, I hope to grow this into more community-based projects and exhibitions, creating opportunities for people to share their work and be part of something bigger.
Who I work with
I offer tailored art sessions for a wide range of people and settings, including community groups, supported living environments, and one-to-one sessions in people’s homes. I also work with older adults, including those living with dementia, mobility challenges, or anyone who may benefit from creative expression and social connection. My aim is to make art accessible, enjoyable, and meaningful for anyone who wants to take part.
I offer 1–1 creative sessions starting from 2 hours, with half-day and full-day options also available depending on what feels right. Everything is tailored to individual needs, pace, and interests. Please get in touch for a chat and a quote, and to explore how I can support through creative, engaging, and joyful art experiences.
