One of my clients has a lovely habit of collecting and pressing flowers from her garden, carefully saving each one to use in our creative sessions. Together, we turn these delicate pieces into artwork, thoughtfully arranging them into something truly personal and unique.
I had such a lovely 1–1 creative session today with one of my clients. We spent time gathering leaves and turning them into a beautiful piece of art, using them as part of a gelli printing activity. It was a simple, calming process that allowed space to slow down and enjoy the moment.
Heather visited a school where she collaborated with pupils to create a space-themed art project. The children designed their own imaginative characters, and together they transformed an old, rusty shipping container in the playground. Heather began by spray-painting the base, turning the dull eyesore into a vibrant galaxy. The pupils then added their space-themed characters, bringing the container to life with colour and creativity. The project encouraged teamwork and collaboration, and the children were proud to see their collective effort turn into a bright, exciting centrepiece for their playground.
This was such a fun session! We created Christmas wreaths out of scrap materials whilst listening to music and drinking tea! Just abit of fun and a nice opportunity to get together and have a good laugh! At the end of the session the residents had a colourful wreath to hang on their doors.
We recently held a creative craft session at Birthwaite Residence in Windermere, where residents transformed recycled materials into Halloween decorations for their party.
The session was relaxed and enjoyable, with music, conversation, and plenty of tea, a wonderful opportunity for residents to socialise, get creative, and celebrate the season together.
This participant is living with dementia and was once an artist who painted beautiful scenes. Although he hadn’t painted for years, believing he no longer could, art has become a way for him to reconnect with his creative past. Despite challenges with communication and hand mobility, he expresses himself through vibrant colours — often using his fingers to paint and blend. This process brings him joy and allows his artistic spirit to shine through once again.
Our recent rag wreath-making session brought women together in a warm, relaxed atmosphere filled with creativity and conversation. It was a laid-back activity that encouraged sharing stories while crafting beautiful autumn wreaths to hang on their doors. Everyone enjoyed the process, and each wreath turned out unique, a lovely reflection of each person’s individual creativity.
